Lead any trip and get an
award! |
The Mountaineers board has unanimously
agreed to a new award scheme for trip leaders. We want to honor
those folks who organize and lead our Club's trips. They are a key
to the our success and bring us together as an outdoor community. We
cannot begin to compensate our leaders for their efforts, but are
pleased to offer a small token of appreciation.
These awards will recognize trips starting with this month's
meeting, July 15, and points can be earned until December 31, 2010.
Through the end of September, we will have two schemes running
simultaneously - fleece jackets for 4 points on the old system, plus
the new awards.
Our awards will be a series of caps and hats with the Club logo. To
encourage first-time trip leaders, we will award a first hat to
anyone who leads a Club trip. Trip leaders earn one point for a day
trip and two points for an overnight trip. See table below for
details.
|
Rules for earning points are (example):
- 1 point for a day trip,
- 2 points for an overnight trip
of any length,
- Points can be earned by only
one person per trip. In the case of co-leaders, points will go
to the first leader listed on the trip announcement unless I am
informed otherwise,
- Trip must go with at least
four participants, per the LAM bylaws,
- No more than four hats can be
earned in this award period.

Example of earning points and
hats:Joe Hero leads
an overnight trip (2 pts) at the end of August, and is awarded
his first hat at the September meeting. He leads a day trip in
late October (3 pts cumulative), and is thus awarded his second
hat at the November meeting, just a time for his head to be warm
this winter. Before the February meeting, he leads a one-night
snow cave trip (2 pts) and a 6-week trip to Antarctica (2 pts),
reaching 7 pts and receiving his third hat at the February
meeting. By June, he has led three more overnight expeditions,
including a day hike with a hotel stay the night before (counts
for 2 pts), plus two day trips. Although he and Jane Hiker
co-led one of the day trips, he was listed first on the trip
announcement and earned the point. With his 7 points before
February, and these 8 more, he has reached the 15-point level.
This brings him the gratitude of his friends, the accolade of
the Club, and best of all, the fourth and final hat of the
2009-2010 award series.
We hope that you will be inspired to lead
many exciting trips! For clarifications,
