In past years, several of us have gone on walking and culinary tours in Italy with guide David Morton, who runs a tour company called Roman Roads (https://www.romanroadwalks.com/). You can see some of our friends on his web page. We are organizing a trip this fall once again, on a route that travels from the mountains to the seaside. We will be leaving the ski hill parking lot at 4:30 pm, a change in start time due to the earlier sunset time.  This is a potluck dinner so please bring food to share, your own plates, utensils, and beverage. As usual, bring some warm clothes and rain gear if the weather changes.  It has been much cooler at the top the past few weeks. If the trip needs to be canceled due to weather conditions, I will send out  a notice by 4 pm.

This one-way hike is a Mountaineers classic that's always rewarding. From Ponderosa Campground, we will hike down Frijoles Canyon for about 8 miles, and reach the Bandelier National Monument Visitor Center.

Let's meet at 8 AM at Ponderosa Campground to set up the car shuttle.

Bring adequate water, snacks, sun protection, and a Park Pass if you have one.

Chances of thunderstorm or severe weather will cancel the hike.

Recently back from a great trip down the Selway River in July 2021, we signed up for our next adventure. We’d like to return to experience the 5-night trip down the Middle Fork in a cooler and quieter season. 2022 is substantially booked, so the September 2, 2023 departure by Hughes River Expeditions offers adventure and beauty, and a musical serenade every night to boot.

Wheeler Peak is going to be closed on 8/27 for tribal and cultural purposes. A big thank you to Tim Rennick for letting me know. As a result, I have cancelled the Wheeler Peak trip and I am scheduling this hike to Latir Peak as an alternative.
