Heading up to the West Rib Cuttoff from the West Butress. Images MA02
        - MA09 cover this increasingly popular alternative to the original approach
        - climbing the West Buttress to the 14,000' (4270m.) camp, then up the
West Rib to 16,000', and a descent to the glacier and the base of the
Japanese Couloir. This not only provides some initial acclimitization,
but avoids "The Valley of Death", the avalanche-prone East Fork
        of the Kahiltna glacier.
