Rotten Snow on Jicarilla Peak

Truchas Group, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, NM

May 3, 2009

Author: Scott Hsu

Participants: Sarah Thien, Andy Thien, Nina the husky, Amy Bauer - Bio, and Scott Hsu - Bio

Jicarilla Peak (12494') is an unranked peak at the north end of the Truchas group.  Despite its unranked status, it is an impressive looking mountain from the north with several appealing lines for ski descents.  Due to horrible snow conditions and nightmarish bushwhacking, we were only able to make it to approximately 12000' on Jicarilla's north ridge before tackling a sticky, slushy ski descent of its north chute.  Click here for a full trip report.

Andy and crew bushwhacking through aspens at the bottom of Jicarilla's
north chute.  Don't let his smile fool you.
