On Monday, January 20th, we will snowshoe up the main trail to Cerro Grande Peak from the trailhead parking lot on State Route 4. The regular trail in the summer is about 4 miles round trip and 1300 feet elevation gain.  In the winter sometimes the upper trail beyond the saddle could be nonexistent. We may need to go straight up from there. On the top at 10200 feet there are sweeping views of Valles Caldera.

Departure time will be 9:30 am at Sullivan Field with carpooling. Hikers going directly to the Cerro Grande trailhead parking should inform us and meet the group at 10am.

Please dress in layers and prepare for cold and windy weather. Bring snowshoes, trekking poles, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, and snacks for the trip. We are going to keep a moderate pace to hike up the mountain. Estimate return to town will be early afternoon.

Both experienced snowshoers and beginners who want this challenge are welcome to join us.

This trip is dependent on the cooperation of weather.  Winter storm and extremely windy conditions will cancel the outing.
