While this has been a fine season for skiing in New Mexico, Wolf Creek remains the snow monster of the southern Rockies. Their base has reached 70 inches as of late January.  I'm interested in organizing a group to rent a house in Pagosa and ski over the February President’s Day weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We could drive to Purgatory one of those days for a change in scenery if the interest is there (46” base). Lift tickets at Wolf Creek are reasonably priced by mainline Colorado standards ($76 for adults, $46 for age 65+); Purgatory has free days or deals for Pajarito pass holders. To socialize in the evenings, we will either go out to dinner or cook dinners in, and certainly will not want to miss the hot springs. I hope that we will have participants interested in cross-country or snowshoeing too. There are several places to do so, including the Alberta Lake area near the ski area, and, if the snow conditions remain good, lower elevations in the upper San Juan Valley, up Piedra Creek, etc. I would propose to leave Los Alamos at 3-4 PM on Thursday afternoon February 13, and drive back home on Monday the 17th, perhaps after some sort of morning outing. Let me know if you are interested; I will ask for a $200 p.p. deposit for the lodging for the 4 nights. I have not yet arranged lodging, but looking online at vacation rentals I would hope for a cost in the range of $1000-1200 total for a 4-bedroom place, to be shared using an algorithm midway between per room and per person.
