Let's do some exploring on Thanksgiving weekend. We will meet in Los Alamos at 8:30 AM, carpool to Ghost Ranch past Abiquiu, and set out on the regular trail through the valley and up the mesa to the gypsum-topped Kitchen Mesa, so named because it stands 600 feet above the kitchen and the rest of the Ghost Ranch headquarters. From there, we will explore some more of the mesa, returning either the way we came, or down an alternate route. We will aim to be back at the cars not later than 3:30 or 4:00, so we can drive back to Los Alamos before dark. We can expect fine views of the Abiquiu valley and the Jemez beyond, particularly Pedernal Peak. We will register at Ghost Ranch headquarters to pay our $10 per person fee (or one can pay online in advance at https://www.ghostranch.org/activities/). IMO, the fee is a modest way to thank Ghost Ranch for keep their spaces open to the public. Bring clothes suitable for whatever the weather might bring, lunch, water, and sun protection. There is a risk of inclement weather this time of year. If we need to cancel, I will do so by email no later than the night before. To take part, contact Bill at the email address above.
