Temples, Tigers and Tak-taks: Travels in Thailand and Cambodia

Date:
Tue, 2016-08-23

Please join us Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Los Alamos Nature Center for a presentation by Melissa Bartlett.

In 2015, Melissa Bartlett traveled by bus the length and breadth of Thailand with a side trip to Cambodia and the magnificent ruins of Angor Wat. In this strange and sometimes overwhelming land they visited temples, native villages of the Karen people, and jungle ruins, took boats through the floating market, tak-taks to night market and checked out the fried spiders at the insect market. Along the way they met elephants, school kids, and survivors of the Pol Pot regime, and the huge felines of the controversial Tiger Temple. Everywhere they found great natural beauty, and compassionate people with a rich, complicated and sometimes cruel history combined with a deeply spiritual culture.

Social and reports of recent and upcoming trips at 7:00pm. Program at 7:30pm.
