6 am Friday: Leave Los Alamos and meet up with participants coming from Santa Fe
- We currently have room for 2 people in our car (and at the Hot Springs campsite) and other cars are welcome to join us
1-2 pm Friday: Arrive at Gila Cliff DwellingsNational Monument parking area
- Hike from the Cliff dwellings parking area out on West Fork Trail #151 (into Gila Wilderness) to find a good campsite
- Sites are shown on AllTrails at 2 and 6.5 miles from the parking area, but I suspect there are plenty of options. We will make camp before sunset regardless of how far we have hiked.
- See website for info: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/gila/null/recarea?recid=2026&actid=50
- See planned route on AllTrails: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/gila-cliff-dwellings-trail-be34124?u=i&sh=ogiena
- Be aware there will be river crossings
Saturday morning: Hike back to car(s) to drop off packs and then visit Cliff Dwellings
Saturday afternoon/evening: Drive to Gila Hot Springs Campground to camp overnight.
- If you plan to camp at the Hot Springs, you are responsible for making your own reservation through the following website. Mention my name so they put us in the same area.
- There is room for 2 people at our hot springs campsite for the first people who contact me.
- There is currently only 1 more campsite available at this campground (as of 10/17/23) which fits "less than 4 people," according to the campground manager.
- Cost for camping at the Hot Springs is $10/person/night PAYABLE IN CASH ONLY
Sunday morning: Drive home
Pets are allowed on the backpacking trail, but not on the trail to the Cliff Dwellings
