Join PEEC and the Los Alamos Mountaineers for an ascent of one of the seven peaks of the Northern New Mexico Peak Challenge.

Pedernal is a landmark visible throughout northern New Mexico, standing as a sentinel at the northern end of the Jemez Mountains. It was Georgia O'Keeffe's mountain, painted by her time after time. The summit is a classic destination and views from its 9,862' narrow top are spectacular.

Still haven't had enough snow? Looking for one more opportunity to strap boards on and glide down a mountain slope (or two) this season, or just looking for a training opportunity for some upcoming snow and glacier travel? Then this trip is for you. Your four footed family members are also welcome, so long as no participants object in advance.

I have arranged for a tour/hike of the Wells Petroglyph Preserve in the Velarde area. This is known to be a spectacular petroglyph area, totalling about 192 acres. More information about the preserve can be found at https://www.mesaprietapetroglyphs.org.  The cost per person will be $35, which we pay to the preserve (this is their group rate). Starting time at the preserve will be sometime early in the morning; I've asked for a 9:00 AM start, before the heat of the day.
