Let’s hike to Puerto Nambe on the Winsor Trail, continuing to Penitente Peak, Lake Peak and returning to Ski Santa Fe via Raven’s Ridge.  This 10-mile hike takes us through some very pleasant country.  The route varies from a long approach through forest, emerging onto alpine meadow, proceeding to a couple of peaks (topping out at 12,400 feet) and descending through forest once again.  Great views and exercise for your cardio vascular system in a venue close to home.   Departing from Sullivan Field at 7:45 AM to arrive at Ski Santa Fe by 9:00 AM.  Expected trip time is eight hours.  Bring l

Join Zack for a 3-day Rio Chama Wilderness trip.   Bring your own kayak, canoe, or raft and spend two nights on the river.   This is fairly straightforward class II/III water, but you probably should have previous experience with the whitewater section below the Montastery.     Permits are not needed after Labor day, but group size is still limited to 16.

Let's try something new! This is a hike to the high ridge north of the Taos Ski Valley road, beginning at 8,400 feet and peaking out at 12,155 feet, with a round-trip distance of 8.6 miles. We will leave Los Alamos at 7:30 AM to try to stay ahead of summer thunderstorms, meeting place to be announced to confirmed participants. This will be new country to me, but I expect spectacular views of Wheeler Peak and the rest of the northern New Mexico high country. If heavy thunderstorms are in the forecast, I will have a variant hike that keeps us off the ridge tops.

Join Zack for a Rio Grande floating adventure. We will start at 9am on Saturday, July 15th at the Red Dot trailhead, hike down to the river, continue up the river trail to the bottom of the Blue Dot. There, we will stop and enjoy lunch and inflate our floating toys/mattresses/water wings. We will then float back down to the Red Dot, wash off in the clean springs, and hike back to our cars.

Summer visitors are welcome!  Some old hands could be really helpful, too.

For the second in our series of hikes, let's up the anty a bit and go for some big elevation gain.

We'll head to Albuquerque and hike the La Luz Trail. We've been wanting to do this for a long time and every time we plan a trip it is closed. Fingers crossed that we'll get to see the wonderful views of Albuquerque along the way and at the top.

This is a rigorous hike, 7.5 miles each way, that hiking books estimate at 9-12 hours.

Some of us are getting ready for some fun Mountaineering. We're going to be doing a series of hikes and outings. We'll start easy.

Let's go hike Chicoma Mountain, the highest peak in the Jemez Mountains. We'll take a meandering drive out forest roads to get to the trail. We'll hike 3 miles roundtrip with 1,100' of elevation gain and 1,100' of elevation lost - no work at all.

Looking forward to a scenic visit to a place I have never been.
