Overview: The objective is to complete a circuit that includes the summits of both West (13,500’) and East (12,650’) Spanish Peaks. The difficulty arises in that this circuit is approximately 15 mi in length with 7,000 feet of total vertical gain. We will leave Los Alamos around noon on Saturday Oct. 6 and drive approximately 5 h to Cordova Pass Campground.
2 Week trip to Chiapas Mexico with the Los Alamos Mountaineers.
Dick Opsahl will be the official leader for this Mountaineers trip to Chiapas from Jan 17-31, 2013. I, Sherry Hardage, am organizing it. I lived in San Cristobal de las Casas for 7 months and know the state reasonably well.

Bandelier on September 29, 2012. This first-ever event is an opportunity
for those not familiar with opera to participate in an introductory
experience, as well as for opera aficionados to enjoy listening in a

What: 8 mile one-way from the Michell trail to the Ski Hill. Return to Sullivan field via free county bus.
When: Sept 29. Meet at the trailhead at 11am to get to the party by 1ish.
How: Running. With enough people, different pace groups will form and people can go at their own pace. There is a party on the deck after, so if any particular person is slower it won't be a problem.
Counterpoint to running to the hill, how about a moderate walk/hike instead. Join Lisa and Kei 9:00 a.m. Saturday September 29 at the Sullivan Field parking lot. From there it's a walk through the western area, then up Quemazon trail to Guaje Ridge. Greet the hard-core as they stagger past us near the end (they're starting at 11:00am). Should take FOUR [corrected from email] hours more or less. Stay for the Ullrfest or not (I think the beer starts flowing at noon and the live music starts at 1:00pm), catch a bus back to Sullivan Field.

This overnight hike is my favorite hike in New Mexico. It is close by, just East of Espanola. The trail head is at 9,000 feet with a wooded trail up to three pretty lakes at 11,400 feet surrounded by towering Truchas peaks. The trail is six miles in and is never terribly steep despite the significant elevation gain. We will hike in on Saturday, spend one night around the lakes, and come out on Sunday.
I hope that you will join me for this beautiful short outing.
We’ve had urban brunch hikes before, but this one has a twist. We will finish the hike at the Co-op, who will be waiting for us with a catered brunch (not a potluck like before – no muss, no fuss). We will meet at the Larry Walkup pool parking lot at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning. After shuttling some cars to the Co-op, we will start the hike, taking the Ranch School Trail down to the Pueblo Canyon Trail, then following the canyon until the Tent Rocks Trail splits off to the south.
It seems that June is a bit crowded and there are some folks who would like to do this trip, but can't do it on June 16. My summer weekends are a bit packed, so I've decided to move this to late summer when it will be a bit cooler than July or August and we should be past the Monsoon Season.

This will be a five-day backpack in beautiful Parunuweap Canyon (the East Fork of the Virgin River), in southwestern Utah, near Zion National Park. We'll drive to Kanab, Utah, on Saturday, September 1, and overnight there. The next morning, we'll place a car at Checkerboard Mesa, in Zion NP, the end point of our backpack. We'll then drive to our trailhead, south of Mt. Carmel Junction, and begin hiking.
